that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul

Hey Nate,

Today was the day! How did it go?

Someone read the blessing on the bread so calmly and understandably today that I felt blessed just hearing it. I purposefully did not look up to see who did such a great job. But I felt closer to God because of that blessing offered in my behalf.

It is hard to stay worthy of blessing the sacrament. The good news: just repent first!

I always prided myself on being a know-it-all in the church. It is easy to know more than everyone else when your family teaches the gospel. They did! Too bad my parents didn't live it. That messed all of us up.

At BYU after my mission i got to be roomies with my best friend, next door neighbor, David Jentzsch. He taught me something his father taught him that surprised me. I guess I didn't know everything after all.

But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.

Next, do you like crystal balls? I love them! Imagine knowing the future.  Wouldn't that be the coolest thing in the world!

How about 3 wishes? Wouldn't you like 3 wishes. The fairy tales about being granted 3 wishes just captured me as a child.

Guess what? These are Satan's counterfeits. There are the real things in Gods true and living church!  Are you interested?

HF loves us so much that when we desire and when we are worthy we can get a patriarchal blessing from a wise old man who has been given the keys of that calling.

Joseph Smith's father was called to be the 1st patriarch in the church. He died in 1890 and at that point Joseph's older brother was called to fill that calling.

Look at what you are embarking on Nathan!  Can you imagine a blessing that is recorded and kept in the vaults in Salt Lake City that was given to you?

Pretty awesome isn't it.

So now some fatherly advice, unclely advice: Be balanced. Take care of your body and your spirit.

Only 10 simple words but good luck effecting them.
